Posted on: 03 Feb 2023

From mermaids and pirates at Bristol Aquarium to a breathtaking look at the wonders of the natural world, there’s plenty to do around Bristol in the upcoming half term.

Half term runs on the week commencing Monday 13 February with some brilliant events and activities planned at some of Bristol’s top attractions and venues.

Read on for the 365Bristol guide to the 2023 February half term…

Bristol Aquarium | Meet the Mermaid and Meet the Pirate

Children of all ages will be able to enjoy a mythical day of fun this February half-term as Bristol Aquarium is taken over by magical mermaids and swashbuckling pirates. Hear tales of the sea, prepare to walk the plank with the playful ‘Captain Cannonball’ and take part in the themed arts and crafts competitions.

Meet the Mermaid runs from Saturday 11 until Sunday 19 February between 10 AM and 3 PM.

Meet the Pirate runs from Monday 20 until Sunday 26 February between 10 AM and 3 PM.

Brunel’s SS Great Britain | Eat Your Way To Australia

Eat Your Way To Australia is back once again this month. Steerage passengers (the SS Great Britain’s lowest classes) didn’t have much to look forward to at mealtimes, for months on end they were forced to endure one of the chewiest diets in history.

Each day of the upcoming half term, visitors are invited to experience what life was like for these passengers. Discover the conditions they lived in and have a taste of recreated weekly rations from the 1850s – could you stomach it?

M Shed | Wildlife Photographer of the Year

Wildlife Photographer of the Year has run at M Shed since November, however, if you haven’t yet found the time to discover this breathtaking exhibition, the February half term might be the perfect opportunity.

The exhibition showcases 100 powerful photographs, each beautifully illustrating the precious beauty of our planet and shining a light on weird and wonderful stories of nature from far and wide – make sure you don’t miss this one!

Aerospace Bristol | Helicopter Half Term

Visitors young and old will have the chance to learn about Bristol’s long-lasting relationship with aviation. Hear from volunteers about helicopters with special spotlight talks, build and fly your own paper helicopter and experience a visit from the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity.

Model flying demonstrations will take place on Tuesday 14 and Thursday 16 February from 10:20 AM, helicopter spotlight talks will take place daily and the Great Western Air Ambulance will be at Aerospace Bristol on Friday 17 February. These activities are free to join with an admission ticket.

Bristol Old Vic | Mog the Forgetful Cat

If you’d rather have a dose of theatre, Bristol Old Vic and much-loved local company The Wardrobe Ensemble have a treat in store for you. Running throughout half term, Mog the Forgetful Cat is a stage adaptation of one of literature’s favourite children’s characters.

Join Mog and her family as she catches a burglar, gate-crashes a cat show, goes to the vet and eats lots and lots of eggs. This loveable kitty may be forgetful but she does have a lot of adventures, so why not join her on one?
