NEW DATE ANNOUNCED: The countdown has begun for Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade 2023

The annual Winter Lantern Parade will once more take over Bedminster on Saturday 4 February with the procession beginning at St. Francis Church and ending at Compass Point School.

 

Last week, the countdown to the much-loved community event began when the Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade flag was raised above the Tobacco Factory today by Local MP Karin Smyth.

In true Bemmy Lantern style, festivities will be kicked off by The Ambling Band, Bristol Samba Band and Brighton Sounds, who will be playing popular tunes as a soundtrack for a hoard of incredible lanterns (including a caterpillar, a butterfly, and a boat) to march along the streets to.

 

Friday’s flag hoisting saw Action Greater Bedminster Steering Group committee chair and community pharmacist Ade Williams, the flag was hoisted after meeting students from the local Ashton Gate Primary, one of the many schools getting creative and preparing to parade through BS3 with their own hand-crafted lanterns.

 

This year’s celebrations will be the eleventh year celebrating the BS3 community and championing local schools and community in the form of a parade. The event is a non-profit community project in Bedminster that works with schools, residents, and businesses.

 

Over three months in the autumn, members of the local community got together to build thousands of lanterns for the annual party. With 5000 visitors, 10 local schools and a community of loyal volunteers, this event encompasses creativity, inclusivity and the wonderful spirit of Bedminster.

The schools and communities include the Ashton Gate Primary, Ashton Vale Primary, Compass Point Primary, Holy Cross Primary, Parson Street Primary, Southville Primary, Victoria Park Primary, 146th Bristol Browniesand BS3 Community Development (Nurseries, Older People's Club and FOOD Club).
