What's On: December at O2 Academy Bristol

As one of the prime destinations for the biggest acts from the UK and abroad, O2 Academy is one of the city's most popular venues for students and Bristolians alike.

 

Much loved radio disc jockeys, jazz-hip hop outfits and 2000s indie heroes are all appearing at one of Bristol's biggest music venues next month with music events and World Cup football taking place almost every day between Saturday 3 and Friday 30 December.

 

 

Christmas is descending on Bristol but that does not mean that our nighttime economy is grinding to a halt. Far from it, December sees a hectic programme of live music, DJ sets and live sport planned at one of the city's flagship venues. Here, we take a look at what's coming up at O2 Academy Bristol next month...

 

James Bay | Saturday 3 December (SOLD OUT)

 

Beginning the list is award-winning singer-songwriter James Bay. Best known for his platinum single 'Hold Back The River' back in 2014, Bay has won both the Rising Star and Best British Male Solo Artist at the Brit Awards and has won fans all over the world for catchy songs tackling love and heartbreak.

Scouting for Girls | Tuesday 6 December (SOLD OUT)

 

Next up, is pop rock darlings Scouting for Girls. A staple of the 2000s scene, the witty indie three piece were one of the few artists who achieved the accolade of having their 2007 single 'She's So Lovely' included in the soundrack for cult teen classic, Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging

 

This is, again, a sold out show, however, resale tickets may become available.

Electric Six - Born to Be Ridiculed | Friday 9 December

 

Detroit based 'disco-punk band at the end of the world' are back in the UK for their 'Born to Be Ridiculed' tour this December. Forming all the way back in 1996, the six-piece are renowned for a comedic approach to their craft, releasing a stunning 14 studio albums throughout their career.

CAGED: Bristol | Saturday 10 December

 

The first club night on the list sees D'N'B Allstars return to Bristol with their brand new tour concept - Caged. Drum and bass fans should get ready for a Randall b2b DLR set, Benny Page b2b Mozey and many more to be announced!

BADBADNOTGOODSunday 11 December (SOLD OUT)

 

BADBADNOTGOOD are the next band to grace the O2 stage. The Canadian instrumental outfit rose to prominence in the early 2010s playing jazz covers of hip-hop luminaries such as MF Doom and Odd Future. Their expansive outlook on music, blurring the line between between '70s soul-jazz, alternative hip-hop, and experimental electronica, is sure to make this a show not to miss.

Clutch | Tuesday 13 December

 

Maryland rockers will head to Bristol on Tuesday 13 as part of a massive European tour. The four-piece have become notorious since their formation in 1990 thanks to their heavy riffs and raucaus live performances and their upcoming appearance in Bristol is sure to prove no different.

Ocean Colour Scene | Thursday 15 December (SOLD OUT)

 

Next at the O2 is mod revivalists Ocean Colour Scene with their much loved brand of energetic psychadelic rock. Although they formed in the 1980s, the four piece only started to make a musical inprint in the mid 1990s thanks to the rise of the Madchester and Cool Britannia movements, boasting a committed following to this day!

Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club: Christmas Blowout | Saturday 17 December

 

Funk and soul fans can expect a real festive shake-up when the much-loved radio DJ, actor and television presenter drops by the O2 next month. BBC 6 Music DJ, Craig Charles is set to bring his unmissable Christmas special back to Bristol with hundreds of 70s music fans descending once more on BS1 for a funk and soul knees up.

Joey Bada$$ | Monday 19 December

 

A member of hip-hop collective Pro Era, American rapper Joey Bada$$ is renowned for his unique mix of street and indie. His upcoming Bristol date comes as part of a string of shows celebrating the tenth anniversary of his celebrated mixtape 1999 as well as his most recent full-length effort, 2000.

Majesty with Rob Lea - The Ultimate Queen Show | Wednesday 21 December

 

The UK's biggest Queen tribute act are heading to Bristol over the Christmas period. Majesty boast an impressive repertoire covering all of Freddie and co's hits with the renwoned frontman played admirably by Rob Lea who has been taking on the role since 2010. So come on down and revel in the nostalgic rock glory of Queen!

Noel Robinson | Friday 30 December

 

Rounding off 2022 at O2 Academy Bristol on the penultimate day of the year is award-winning Christian London-based artist Noel Robinson. Playing a mix of contemporary Christian and gospel music, Robinson has released five studio albums and has worked extensively with the BBC's Songs of Praise.
