The popular film festival is set to return later this month with a three-day horror film festival at the former Bristol IMAX, screening a selection of cult and classic slashers.

Forbidden Worlds Film Festival will run from Friday 28 until Sunday 30 October.

Join the Forbidden Worlds team for a weekend of big screams on the biggest screen with the likes of Sam Raim’s Evil Dead II, John Carpenter’s 1978 masterpiece Halloween and cult classic Friday Night all showing.

Tickets can be found here.

Following the massively successful debut festival in May saw over 1,100 admissions for a weekend of films from 1982 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of local video shop 20th Century Flicks, Forbidden Worlds is returning this month for ‘The Big Screen’.

On the final weekend of the month, horror fans will flock to the South West’s largest screen for a carefully curated programme of horror titles that have intrigued and terrified viewers in equal measure over the years.

The lineup features celebrated favourites such as Sam Raimi’s gonzo horror-comedy Evil Dead II (celebrating its 35th anniversary this year) and John Carpenter’s 1978 masterpiece, Halloween.

There will also be a selection of cult classics for horror heads to sink their teeth into. Titles include Tom Holland’s Fright Night (1985), the Boris Karloff and Elsa Lanchester-starring Bride of Frankenstein, Vincent Price in The Tingler, the unclassifiable The Boxer’s Omen, Japanese action movie Wolf Guy and golden age slasher The Slumber Party to name but a few. Head to the Forbidden Worlds website for a full list.

Tessa Williams (part of the festival programming team) has said:

“I am really excited that we’ve been given this opportunity to use the former Bristol IMAX again for a horror-themed festival for Halloween weekend. Horror is one of my favourite genres and we’ve programmed some absolute classics that aren’t often seen on the big screen.

“You especially won’t want to miss the original Halloween, which I believe is the greatest horror film of all time. I can’t wait to see it on the biggest screen in the city with the festival audience!”

The festival; which is dedicated to screening a blend of fantasy, action, science fiction and horror films from around the world; will host the screening at the old IMAX (located in Bristol Aquarium), utilising the epic 19m x 15m screen.

Organisers have a few surprises in store for attendees with special introductions, guest speakers and the festival’s own festival beer courtesy of New Bristol Brewery. Attendees are also welcome to dress up, with prizes available for the best costume.

Forbidden Worlds Film Festival – The Big Screen will run from Friday 28 until Sunday 30 October. Weekend, day and individual film screening passes are all available to purchase here.
