National Geographic Announce Third Year of 'Field Ready' scheme

Posted on: 11 Oct 2022

National Geographic have announced the third year of their Field Ready program – a recruitment, training and mentorship initiative designed to help promote diversity and inclusion for historically unrepresented groups.

This is really one not to miss if you’re a beginner looking to enter the wildlife film & TV industry.

The scheme will see National Geographic partner with members across the National Geographic Society to “provide diverse emerging talent with access to training, mentorship, and practical in-field experience across our global productions.”, according to National Geographic Content President Courteney Monroe.

That starts with this week’s Wildscreen Festival; the third-year cohort of National Geographic Field Ready will be kicking off their participation by attending – an experience Janet Han Vissering, senior VP of Development and Production, is confident “enriches their experience and will broaden their horizons at the very start of their participation in the program”.

Wildscreen, taking place this week, began on Monday the 10th of October and will continue until Friday the 14th of October. Wildscreen is the leading international natural world storytelling event – focusing on wildlife film and TV and the people who make it.

If you’re interested in the Wildscreen Festival, their website is here - Wildscreen as a wider charity organisation also run events both ticketed and free throughout the year, so look out for those.

The Field Ready programme also includes one-to-one mentorship with expert filmmakers, such as James Cameron & Darren Aronofsky – and talks by National Geographic high-ups like Han Vissering, and National Geographic Explorer Brian Skerry.

To date, the program has been widely successful with early-career storytellers from 15 countries focused on filmmaking having completed the program and 60% of its participants working on National Geographic productions around the globe.
