Batala Bristol is part of a global network of samba reggae bands whose history stretches back 25 years to when they were first formed.

The taster session will take place between 1PM and 5PM on Saturday 22 October at Ashton Park School (the group’s normal rehearsal space) and costs £25.

Head to the Batala Bristol Facebook page to find out more or email info@batalabristol.com.

Over the years, Batala has grown to a staggering 40 bands in 15 different countries with over 1200 players worldwide. The Bristol group have been part of that family (Batala Mundo) for 11 years.

The players have had the opportunity to perform all over the UK and beyond, playing at carnivals around the world including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, San Francisco, New York, Barcelona and everywhere in between.

Indeed, one of the members is journeying to Mexico City at the end of the month for the famous Día de Los Muertos (or Day of the Dead) Festival and a small contingent are planning to participate in the world’s biggest carnival at Salvador Bahia (the home and birthplace of samba reggae) early next year.

With the intention of introducing those interested to the history of Samba Reggae, how the drums sound and how they fit together musically, Batala Bristol are running a "Taster Day" on Saturday 22 October at Ashton Park School.

Those taking part will have the opportunity to play a few of the drums and a couple of tunes and see what they think in a session that is sure to prove a great day, full of fun and smiles.

It will be a great chance to meet new people, find out a bit more about Batala Bristol and maybe even join the ever-growing band - the cost of the taster session is £25.

The taster day’s atmosphere will be relaxed and fun with plenty of breaks for food and so it won't be as intense as it may sound initially and there will be a few of the current band members there to show you the ropes.

The Batala Bristol open day runs between 1PM and 5PM on Saturday 22 October at Ashton Park School, head to the band Facebook page for more information.
