The event was originally due to take place last year but was cancelled because of the pandemic.

This month, courtesy of Bristol Ideas, Harbourside cinema Watershed will screen a string of movies under the banner ‘Fractured Paris’ – a short films season exploring the French Capital.

From avante-garde art to the suburbs, a national monument aflame and a modern re-telling of a classic story, this exciting series – running throughout October – shines a light on the city’s past and present.

More information, including specific timings and pricing, can be found via Bristol Ideas’ website.

‘Fractured Paris’- a short films season exploring the French capital - was originally due to be presented as part of Future City Film Festival last year, but the pandemic necessitated postponement.

Rejigged and rescheduled for October 2022, a series of five films is set to be screened at BS1 cinema Watershed.

On Sunday 9 October, ‘Les Misérables’ (2019) – an exposition of the harsh realities of life inspired by the 2005 Paris riots – follows a newly assigned police officer thrown headfirst into an escalating conflict between two rival gangs.

The following Sunday, October 16, ‘Gagarine’ (2020) - a imaginative tale following a 16-year-old boy dreaming of emulating his Soviet cosmonaut namesake in becoming an astronaut as he fights to save his red-brick estate from demolition – will be screened.

‘Notre Dame on Fire’ (2022), a gripping blow-by-blow recreation of the huge fire that engulfed the world-famous cathedral in 2019, will feature the following week on Sunday 23 October.

Rounding out the series is ‘Paris Calligrammes’ (2020), which follows Ulrike Ottinger, one of Germany’s most famous avant-garde artists, during her time living in Paris through historic photographs and documentary footage.

The series’ first event, ‘We (Nous)’ (2022) has already passed. More information about each screening, including pricing and timings, can be found via Bristol Ideas’ website.
