Futures Festival is set to take over Brunel’s SS Great Britain next weekend

Futures Festival 2022 have a range of free events coming to the South West across the first weekend of October.

 

Futures: A festival of discovery for the South West will run across the region next weekend. The festival features a range of in-person and online events, all of which are free.

Futures is a free festival of discovery taking place at venues in Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall (as well as online) over the last weekend of September with a focus on the innovative, world class research taking place at universities throughout the region.

 

The festival will bring science, culture and research together to create an experience for all ages. Events include late-night museum openings, hands-on activities, exhibitions, storytelling, quizzes, radio broadcasts and much more.

 

Bristol’s main attraction takes place on Friday 30 September with a unique late opening of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s historic ocean liner, the SS Great Britain. Visitors will have a range of fascinating, interactive and hands-on exhibits to explore, all featuring groundbreaking research.

There will be the opportunity to hear first-hand accounts from researchers about their life and work in the form of mini-talks, performances and poetry. This event is perfect for the whole family and entry (through a free ticket that can be found here) includes access to the ship.

 

Futures also features a range of other exciting in-person happenings, including a pop-up curiosity shop of science and culture at Exeter’s Maketank; Building a Digital You at Bath’s Walcot House; a Peepshow Walking Tour at Teignmouth Lighthouse and Biology in Action at Bath Spa University.

 

A range of online activities are also taking place. Highlights include a digital tour of Bath with Test Tubes and Time Travel, the radio show Futures On Air, the Big Earth Quiz and a discussion about society's most significant issues today, entitled The Big Talk.
