Mr Scruff to return to Bristol for summer day party

Posted on: 06 Jun 2022

Your favourite DJ's favourite DJ will be making the trip to the Westcountry as part of Motion's huge Summer 2022 club programme.

Internationally-renowned DJ and producer Mr Scruff has been confirmed to headline one of many day parties taking place at Motion this summer, set to perform at the Avon Street complex on Saturday 16 July.

Arriving in Bristol for the first time since 2019, Mr Scruff will come armed with a notoriously diverse crate of records, known to span everything from classic house and disco to jazz, dub, reggae and much more.

Tickets for the event, which will also feature Mr Scruff's right-hand man MC Kwasi alongside DJs Mafalda, Angel Mel and Sharples are on sale now and can be found here.

Having been DJing since the mid-90s and producing for almost as long, they don't come much more committed than self-confessed music geek Andy Carthy - better known as Mr Scruff - when it comes to musical knowledge and passion for the craft.

The Manchester-based artist borrows from genres and sounds across the board, flitting between funk, soul, hip-hop, Latin, African, breaks and much more, and drawing on all of his influences with a large dose of upbeat humour.

Since his first-ever vinyl release in the mid-1990s, Mr Scruff has gone on to release on more than 25 labels, including Warp, Sirkus and Ninja Tune.

His DJ sets - often several hours long - are lively displays of his eclectic musical taste, often backed by quirky homemade visuals and animations.

Mr Scruff will be joined at Motion this summer by his right-hand man MC Kwasi, as well as revered genre-spanning DJ Mafalda, Bristol's own Angel Mel and Manchester-based selector Sharples to celebrate 23 years of his seminal club night, Keep It Unreal.

Tickets for the full day party - taking place from 13:00 to 22:00 on Saturday 16 July - are on sale now and can be found here.
