On top of their busy schedule of headline exhibitions, Bristol Museum have a range of regular one-off events for visitors to get involved in.

Over the next month, Bristol Museum and Art Gallery will host a selection of special events for visitors to get involved in.

Whether you’re taking part in a session inspired by the ongoing Grayson’s Art Club exhibition or learning about how Bristol is linked to one of Britain’s key artistic figures, the museum has something for you. Head to the Bristol Museums website for more information.

The Museum at Night: Grayson’s Art Club | Thursday 26 May

Taking place in conjunction with the long-running ‘Grayson’s Art Club’ exhibition, this Museum at Night live event will give visitors the chance to take part in arty activities, explore the museum after hours, enjoy a drink and even watch or take part in The People’s Catwalk.

Performer, drag artist and founder of ‘House of Savalon’ Astro Zenica and friends will be presenting The People’s Catwalk in a playful, absurd, and side-splitting performance. Expect spoken word, singing, games and plenty of laughs.

In addition, award-winning makeup artist Panda will be adding some colour, sparkle and makeup to as many people as possible; giving visitors the confidence to strut their stuff on the catwalk.

There will also be live music from MC, poet and beatmaker iam13 (pictured below), a DJ, and opportunities to make your own art across the museum. Tickets can be found here and include entry to the Grayson’s Art Club exhibition.

Grayson’s Art Club: Wellbeing art sessions for adults | Thursday 9 June

Also running alongside the Grayson Perry exhibition (that continues until September) is a free art session. The session will be organised by CreativeShift, Bristol’s experts in art on referral – supporting art as a vehicle for positive mental wellbeing.

Available to anyone over 18, this event acts as a taster of all the fun and creative work that’s happening in this field across Bristol. CreativeShift cater to all artistic abilities, whether you’re a keen artist or haven’t picked up a pen since school.

Sessions are free and will take place in the museum’s rear hall. Tickets can be booked here.

William Hogarth’s Altarpiece | Wednesday 15 June

On display in St Nicholas Church since the 1970s, William Hogarth’s largest piece was commissioned as a new altarpiece for St Mary Redcliffe in the mid-1700s.

However, during the Victorian era, Hogarth’s work was seen as not suitable due to the artist’s political and satirical tendencies. Acquired by Bristol Museum and Art Gallery in 1955 and displayed at St Nicholas Church, the sprawling triptych will be open to visitors for one day in June.

Julia Carver - curator of art at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery – will introduce the painting and discuss its interesting journey around the city. Entry to this event is free although donations are welcome, visit the museum website for more information.
