Bristol's festive sporting fixtures 2021/22

Posted on: 23 Dec 2021

With Christmas well and truly underway we thought we'd take a comprehensive look at Bristol's sporting calender over the festive period so whether you're City, Rovers or the Bears is more your kind of thing there's plenty of action.

The Christmas period is a busy one for sports teams up and down the country and it can often be difficult to keep on top of it all so here's your festive run-down of games involving the city's three major clubs...

Bristol City:

The tightly packed Christmas period comes at a difficult time for City as displeasure and frustration seeps into the fan base, however, while last week's 2-3 loss to Huddersfield Town was a disappointment for Nigel Pearson's men, there is hope in recent home results. Having began the season with an abysmal record at Ashton Gate, things have began to change in BS3 with 4 home matches unbeaten before the defeat at the hands of the Terriers,

Looking at the Robins' festive fixtures, it could be three tough games in the space of seven days at a time of year that is always difficult. On Boxing Day, City visit Luton who are still overachieving under the stewardship of Nathan Jones despite a recent dip in form that's seen them only win once in their last five.

The penultimate day of 2021 sees Mark Warburton's QPR head to The Gate and, with the West London outfit sitting in the playoffs, Pearson's side will need to be at their best to find a win in front of a packed Ashton Gate.

The Robins will be starting the New Year in South Bristol with Gary Rowett's Millwall sitting slap bang in the middle of the league with only one win in their last five matches. City fans will be hoping that the disappointments of 2021 (a year that saw matches played behind closed doors and dismal results) are long gone and 2022 brings far better fortune.

Bristol City's festive fixture list is as follows:

Luton Town (A) Sunday 26 December

Queens Park Rangers (H) Thursday 30 December

Millwall (H) Sunday 2 January

Bristol Rovers:

With relegation to England's fourth teir and a poor start to life in League Two, 2021 has not been ideal for Bristol Rovers and, with results improving of late, Joey Barton's team will be hoping for a swift upturn in the second half of the season. Recent weeks have seen a couple of games postpones but overall things are looking better for The Pirates; despite a couple of losses, wins over Northampton, Oxford United and Rochdale have shown that there is steel in this team. Something to build from for sure.

The Gas' Boxing Day fixture (at home to Sutton) has unfortunately been postponed due to Covid but the visit to Crawley Town  is currently going ahead. Rovers are away yet again  on New Years Day as they travel to Leyton Orient meaning that fans will have to wait to see their team in 2022.

Bristol Rovers' festive fixture list is as follows:

Crawley Town (A) Sunday 29 December

Leyton Orient (A) Saturday 1 January

Bristol Bears:

After a two exciting years of high class rugby, 2021/22 has not gone according to plan thus far for The Bears. A poor start to the season has left Pat Lams floundering towards the bottom of the table and, after the dizzy heights of winning their first-ever European Challenge Cup at the tail end of the 2019/20 season, its proved a sobering few months with the Ashton Gate based outfit losing four of their last five games.

Boxing Day will see The Bears welcome Leicester Tigers to Ashton Gate and the last time the two sides met saw Bristol bears running out 26-23 winners at Ashton Gate in a match that saw a very dramatic climax - fans will be hoping for more of the same in this festive clash.

Lam's team are away to Exeter Chiefs on New Years Day, a side whose fortunes this season stand in sharp contrast to that of The Bears. Exeter have beaten Saracens and Montpellier in recent weeks and this could be a stern test for the away side.

Bristol Bears' festive fixture list is as follows:

Leicester Tigers (H) Sunday 26 December

Exeter Chiefs (H) Saturday 1 January
