Independents' Day: Show some love for Bristol's indies

Posted on: 02 Jul 2021

Independent businesses in Bristol have had a tough year. Show them your support this Independents' Day.

It comes around once a year, but we doubt it's ever been more needed. Sunday 4 July is all about our city's indies, so let's shout about the businesses keeping Bristol great.

The Arcade @ Broadmead, Bristol BS1 3JD

In the heart of Broadmead, Bristol's largest shopping quarter, lies the Arcade, a champion of independent businesses since 1825.

With a range of services on offer from beauty treatments, key cutting, and a vintage clothing store, there is bound to be something for you this Sunday.

Bristol Beer Factory @ 291 North Street, Southville, Bristol BS3 1JP

Located along the fiercely independent North Street, enjoy a pint and a catch-up at Bristol Beer Factory's taproom.

Brewing some of the city's finest since 2004, the venue sells a vast array of craft beer with cans, cases and merch to take home with you.

The Last Bookshop @ 60 Park St, Bristol BS1 5JN

On the hill of Park Street in the shadow of the famous Wills Memorial building, The Last Bookshop has stood steadfast since 2011.

All books are just £3. You won't find a bigger bargain anywhere else, so go and find your next great read!

Friendly Records @ Your living room

Friendly Records have been selling merch and vinyl across a range of genres since 2016. They even made an appearance at Glastonbury 2019 as Jon Beavis, drummer in Bristol band IDLES, donned his Friendly vest.

The store is currently closed for in-person visits, but why not get comfortable at home and browse their collection online?

The Bristolian @ 2 Picton St, Montpelier, Bristol BS6 5QA

Just past Turbo Island, tucked away on a quiet Montpellier street, The Bristolian has been serving up some of the best breakfast and lunch dishes Bristol has to offer for years.

Whatever you fancy, The Bristolian has got you covered with plenty of options for veggies, vegans and meat-eaters! Follow the link to find out more.

Newtown Park Brewing Co. @ Unit 9 Wadehurst Ind. Park, Bristol, BS2 0JE

Venturing into the world of hospitality amid a global pandemic (who does that?!), Newtown Park Brewing Co's range of great tasting beer has marked them out as one of the best around - no small feat in Bristol's ever-growing craft beer community.

With their taproom now open, why not enjoy a drink in a space designed to help friends share the good times this Sunday. If you don't fancy heading out, follow the link above to check out their selection of cans for sale online.

Big Jeff Johns Art @ Home

If you're looking to brighten up your walls, look no further than the art of Bristol's very own firebrand of independent music Jeffrey Johns, aka Big Jeff.

Exhibited for the first time earlier this year, we think Jeff's vibrant art will look great dressing your home. Follow the link above to find out how you can get your hands on one of his prints.

Thali @ 64-66 st Marks Road, Easton, BS5 6JH

What started as a food truck at Glastonbury festival has grown to become one of Bristol's best-loved restaurants, serving up a unique interpretation of Indian cuisine.

With a large menu that caters for all kinds of dietary needs, there is bound to be something for you here. Grab yourself a table or a takeaway this Sunday.

BARBI App @ Apple & Play Stores

Speaking of takeaways, Deliveroo is convenient - we'll give it that, but why not try the BARBI app. It's just as easy and unlike the big companies, they charge fair fees for businesses and pay their employees at a rate their hard work warrants.

If you don't fancy cooking this Sunday, follow the link above to find out how you can download the BARBI app.
