The Cube are screening new IDLES documentary Don't Go Gentle this month

Posted on: 01 Jul 2021

Don't Go Gentle is getting two more Bristol screenings following last month's nationwide release.

A brand-new documentary following revered Bristol band IDLES is showing at The Cube this month, with the popular independent cinema and arts space set to host two screenings on Saturday 10 July.

Titled Don't Go Gentle, the film follows the band as they bring their no-nonsense sound to stages and festivals across the UK and around the world, spreading an unwavering message of community and tolerance along the way.

Both screenings, taking place at 17:00 and 20:00, will be accompanied by a Q&A session with filmmaker and former IDLES guitarist Andy Stewart.

Widely regarded to be among the most exciting bands coming out of the UK right now, IDLES' stock has been consistently on the rise since they emerged in Bristol in the mid-2010s.

Following on from the major success of their first two albums, Brutalism in 2017 and Joy as an Act of Resistance a year later, IDLES' most recently released their huge third record, Ultra Mono, which reached Number One in the UK Albums Chart in late 2020.

Helmed by Mark Archer making his directorial debut, Don't Go Gentle represents a raucous, uncompromising journey through determination, friendship and adversity.

Premiered in June at Bristol's Watershed cinema, the film follows IDLES as they fight for a place in an increasingly divided socio-political environment, unexpectedly inspiring and unifying an international community.

As lead singer Joe Talbot and the band tear across stages, tackle stereotypes and empower fans with their bold ethos, the audience are provided with an intimate discussion around mental health and the uncomfortable realities of modern life.

Tickets for Don't Go Gentle at The Cube, showing at 17:00 and 20:00 on Saturday 10 July, are bookable individually or as a pair, and can be found via Headfirst.
