Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Belle & Sebastian Bristol gigs moved to summer 2022

Tickets purchased for previous dates remain valid for the rescheduled performances.

Eagerly-anticipated live performances from Nile Rodgers & CHIC and Belle & Sebastian have been successfully rescheduled to summer 2022, organisers Bristol Beacon have confirmed.

Initially set to take place at the open-air Lloyds Amphitheatre to launch the 2020 Bristol Harbour Festival, the gigs were postponed due to the initial outbreak of coronavirus and the introduction of the first nationwide lockdown restrictions.

Now, despite some optimism that the events would be able to go ahead this summer, they've been rescheduled once again amid ongoing safety concerns as the UK emerges from lockdown under the government's 'roadmap' system.

With tickets on sale now, and tickets purchased for the original shows valid for the rescheduled dates, Belle & Sebastian will be taking the stage on the Harbourside on Wednesday 13 July 2022, before Nile Rodgers and CHIC perform on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 July.

2021 marks twenty-five years since Scottish indie outfit Belle & Sebastian released their debut album Tigermilk, their seminal 1996 project which famously took just a few days to record and was originally limited to a thousand vinyl copies.

Going on to release a further nine full-length albums, most recently Days of the Bagnold Summer in 2019, the seven-piece have enjoyed a glittering career and amassed a cult following across the UK and around the world.

Disco-funk icons Nile Rodgers and CHIC need no introduction, meanwhile, having released iconic tracks like 'Le Freak', 'Good Times' and 'Everybody Dance', and played on some of the world's biggest stages during a career spanning over four decades.

Rodgers, a living legend in his own right having won three Grammy Awards and been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, is the driving force behind the group as a guitarist, singer-songwriter, composer, producer and ethereal live performer.

Set to take place in the open-air, 5,000-capacity Lloyds Amphitheatre, next summer's live performances will become the latest in a long line of memorable shows to take place on Bristol's Harbourside in recent years.

Since 2015, the Bristol Beacon team have brought Goldie, New Order, Jimmy Cliff & Grandmaster Flash and many more world-renowned artists to the stage.

Speaking on the confirmation of dates for next year's performances, Bristol Beacon Artistic Director, Todd Wills, said:

“We know that ticket holders and music fans are eager to return to live music events as soon as its safe, so we know that many will be disappointed that Nile Rogers and CHIC and Belle & Sebastian won’t be gracing the Bristol Harbourside this summer.

“We want to ensure that these shows can go ahead exactly as intended, and with 21st June being the very earliest that large-scale events can take place according to the government’s roadmap, there is little time to guarantee we can make this happen.

“We’ve been working with the artists to secure new dates for these events, and we are really happy that we can still bring these musical icons to Bristol next summer.”

Tickets purchased for the original 2020 dates for both of the above shows remain valid for rescheduled dates, with existing ticket holders set to be contacted by the organisers in the coming days regarding refund options.

Remaining tickets for both Belle & Sebastian (Wednesday 13 July 2022) and Nile Rodgers & CHIC (Thursday 14, Friday 15 July 2022) are on sale now and can be found here.
