Bristol Irish Society unveil virtual St Patrick's Day 2021 programme

Posted on: 16 Mar 2021

Celebrate an age-old Irish holiday from the comfort of your own home.

The Bristol Irish Society have issued an invite for Bristolians to join in their St Patrick's Day celebrations this year, with their 2021 programme taking place entirely online amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Taking place from 19:00 tomorrow (Wednesday 17 March) evening, organisers will be hosting a range of themed performances and activities, from an authentic opening Tá fáilte romhat (welcome) to a dance session, pub quiz, live music and more.

After such a long time without any interaction, the Bristol Irish Society St Patrick's Day 2021 programme represents a great opportunity to engage with your community, meet new people and celebrate the very best of Irish culture.

With the full event completely free to enjoy, organisers have confirmed that all you'll need to get involved tomorrow is a Wifi-enabled computer or handheld device with Zoom installed, a drink or two (or three) of your choice and, most importantly, a comfy chair.

Those watching at home are also politely asked to keep things friendly, ensure that children are not left unsupervised during the event, and to refrain from talking "too much s***".

Once things are underway, attendees will be able to break into their own smaller chat rooms to get familiar with each other and socialise, before joining in on introductory Irish lessons and a Trad Session from Irish Society President Amelia Dundford.

From there, Kate O'Malley from O'Malley Dance School will be hosting an exclusive dance session, followed by an eagerly-anticipated St Patrick's Day pub quiz at 20:00.

Live music will be provided on the night by Seamus O'Donnell resident band Lilting Banshees and Bristol-based three-piece The Ceili. Later, if time and technology allows, attendees can try to win big as part of a live game of bingo and a raffle draw.

It might not be the St Patrick's Day you were after this year, but in the absence of a proper night out, there will be few better ways to spend your Wednesday evening this week than in the company of the Bristol Irish Society.
