Love Saves The Day launch new mix series in recognition of closed Bristol venues

Posted on: 01 Feb 2021

Tune in for a genre-spanning mix series kicked off by Bristol producer OH91.

The team behind much-loved annual festival Love Saves The Day have launched Dance Local, a monthly mix series put together to shine a light on the people and places that help keep the Bristol music scene alive.

Each entry will feature a new Bristol-based artist recording a mix in honour of their chosen Bristol venue, bringing creative communities together at a time when dancefloors remain empty after months of closure.

For the first edition, available now via Mixcloud, sees renowned producer OH91 take to the decks for a huge selection of bass, grime, drill and dubstep in a nod to Motion's third room, The Tunnel.

In the absence of their regular programming, the LSTD team have enlisted the services of a range of revered local DJs and producers to record exclusive mixes that pay homage to the venues or dancefloors they hold close to their hearts.

Inspired by his early days playing and attending parties inside The Tunnel, Bristol's OH91 covers Breakage, Skream, Preditah and much more, reflecting the raw energy of the space when it's in full flow.

Speaking to Love Saves The Day, he said: "The space that inspired my mix has made a big contribution to my early days of playing Bristol’s clubs. My reason for choosing The Tunnel is, for me, a personal thing – every time I play [it] I always seem to have a lively time!

"For me, it’s been one of the clubs that me and my friends would go to from an early age and genuinely just rave – we would go to Motion at night and leave when the sun comes up!

"Over time, I started to make a relationship with the guys behind the scenes, which led me to book a few sets when I was just floating about, getting my sound out.

"I got to feel a positive crowd response and reception when playing in the Tunnel and it was one of the best feelings ever!"

Speaking on the launch of the new series, the Motion team issued a "massive thank you" to everyone across Bristol and beyond for their support while they've been forced to remain closed.

"We can’t wait to reopen our doors to you all, hopefully in the next few months," they added.

Dance Local 001 featuring OH91 is available now via Mixcloud. For more information on the series, or to follow news and updates, follow Love Saves The Day on Twitter.
