Arnolfini launch new virtual art workshop for children and families

Posted on: 15 Dec 2020

The We Are Family online tutorial will be free to access until the end of January 2021.

Bristol's Arnolfini have teamed up with local workshops project Let's Make Art to launch We Are Family: Hidden Self, a new virtual art workshop aimed at young children and their families.

Available for free until the end of January, We Are Family invites young people to make their own cardboard portrait of themselves, featuring an interior scene as well as an outward-showing persona.

The full workshop pack - available here - includes a list of materials you'll need to join in, easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions, photos of a work in progress for reference and a full video to follow in real-time.

With the Christmas holidays fast approaching and the end of an incredibly difficult year on the horizon, creative outlets have been vital for young people affected by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Having missed out on months of schooling in many cases, parents have had to look for other means of engaging their kids, with artistic projects a popular choice.

We Are Family: Hidden Self encourages young people to consider the face they show to the world, and compare it to their perception of what's on the inside.

The Arnolfini and Let's Make Art are inviting you to get creative as you like with this one, while at the same time allowing kids to consider and better understand their own thoughts and feelings in a unique, interactive format.
