Community Care Package issue fresh appeal for donations

Community Care Package issue fresh appeal for donations

Posted on: 04 Nov 2020

The project has been delivering free fruit and veg boxes in and around Bristol throughout the coronavirus crisis.

The Bristol-based team behind the Community Care Package project have issued a new appeal for donations, as they continue to deliver fresh food to people that need it most amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Launched in March by a group of volunteers from community organisations and temporarily-closed pubs and venues, Community Care Package has delivered more than 16,000 fruit and veg boxes across the city so far.

Representatives from The Plough Inn, The Pipe & Slippers, The Lion, The Star & Garter, Easton Cowboys & Cowgirls Sports and Social Club, as well as a selection of community groups, have been working together to help as many as 4,500 people through the pandemic.

But, with demand rising and funding running low, organisers have appealed to the Bristol public to consider donating to the project to enable them to continue operating through the upcoming lockdown and into what's certain to be a busy winter period.

Despite raising close to £33,000 so far, the CCP team were forced to drop down to one delivery per week instead of two in September in an effort to stretch funding as far as possible.

A donation of just £10 could pay for the delivery of two boxes of fruit and veg, with boxes costing £4 each on average.

Those that can afford to are also encouraged to set up a monthly standing order payment via the CCP Fundsurfer page, supporting the project through the winter and into 2021.

The organisers are also appealing for volunteer delivery drivers (anyone with a DBS, access to a vehicle and spare time on Tuesdays) to assist them in delivering boxes once a week, ensuring they're able to reach as many people as possible.

To register to volunteer or to get in touch with any queries, fill in this form or contact the team via email.
