How to support Bristol venues this week

How to support Bristol venues this week

Posted on: 02 Nov 2020

Pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants need your support ahead of a second UK lockdown.

Independent businesses across Bristol were dealt yet another blow over the weekend, as the government announced plans for a second nationwide lockdown to remain in place for a minimum of four weeks.

After the huge impact of the initial lockdown, and the difficulties that arose from the introduction of a ten o clock curfew enforced in September, it's predicted that many small businesses won't survive another period of closure.

With just three days left before the start of lockdown, we urge anyone that's able to visit the pub, go out for a meal or attend an event to get out and support your favourite independents before they close on Thursday.

Read on to find out how you can do your bit to get behind Bristol's brilliant independent businesses this week.

Guests at Breaking Bread.

Drink up at your local

Pubs across Bristol have days to sell as much of their stock as they can, to boost profits before another lockdown and, crucially, make sure they're not left with barrels of expiring beer.

In an effort to empty already-opened kegs, independents are offering a range of deals on their full selections of draught beer and cider from now until closing on Wednesday.

The Crofters Rights are selling pints for just £2.50, Lakota are inviting the great Bristol public to drink their bar dry at Living la Vida Lockdown tonight (Monday 2 November), and The Rising Sun in Windmill Hill are selling discounted two-pint takeaway cartons.

If you've got an evening free this week, be sure to show your support and head to your local for a few drinks.

Buy last-minute tickets for an event

Live venues and bars across Bristol were showing encouraging signs of recovery post-lockdown, with several slowly re-introducing live events like gigs, club nights, comedy nights and more.

The second lockdown has come just as it looked like UK venues might bounce back, so with only a few days remaining, have a look on Headfirst to see if any events catch your eye before Thursday.

Breaking Bread will be hosting their final sittings of a successful debut season, Lakota Gardens will be sadly drawing to a close, and No 51's will be attempting to lift spirits with their recently-launched Comedy Club on Wednesday.

Again, if you've got no plans, why not see what's on at your favourite venue? It might be a while before you're able to return, and they'll be eternally grateful for your support.

Go out for a meal

There's no telling which Bristol restaurants will still be around once the dust has settled and the coronavirus crisis is brought under control, such is the massive impact 2020 has had on the hospitality sector.

After the initial lockdown, an unforeseen wave of customer no-shows in the summer and the introduction of a ten o clock curfew, independent restaurants are on their knees having done everything they can to stay afloat this year.

This time around, make the most of a few more days of freedom by enjoying a meal out with friends or family, and support a local business in the process.
