New bar and restaurant ready to open on Church Road

Posted on: 25 Sep 2020

The Red Church opens its door next week with a focus on quality food and music.

An old bank in Bristol has been transformed into a bar and restaurant following a major renovation, with the former head chef of The Ethicurean behind the food menu.

The Red Church will open its doors to the public next week, in the former Lloyds bank building on Church Road in Redfield.

The new venue from The Christmas Steps, Spotted Cow and Crack Magazine will also feature an ex Pinewood Studios sound system.

The Red Church was due to open in April, but the opening date was pushed back due to coronavirus. Finally, the venue opens to the public on Friday 2 October.

Inside, food will be a significant feature of the venue with Simon Miller, formerly of head chef The Ethicurean, heading up the food offering.

The all-day venue will serve brunch from 10:00, pizza from midday and a modern European menu at dinner, plus traditional roasts on Sundays.

On the bar, expect beers from Arbor, Bristol Beer Factory, Lost and Grounded and Twisted Oak and wine from local operators.

Another key focus of The Red Church is music, thanks to its exceptional-quality sound system, sourced from the legendary production unit Pinewood Studios.

The speakers underwent a week-long tuning process to ensure sound quality – they'll be put to the test when top Bristol DJs play the venue every Friday and Saturday.

The venue will also encourage the public to use its open record policy, where guests can choose vinyl from the venue's extensive and regularly updated collection.

The windows at the front of the building have been extended to allow maximum natural light, combining old and new to create “a refreshing and authentic design-style.”

Tom Frost, co-founder of The Red Church and Crack Magazine, said:

"We can't wait to open the doors of the Red Church and look forward to welcoming all members of the local community and beyond.

"We've worked hard to create a venue that works for the duration of the day, great for having a coffee and brunch with your laptop, bringing the family for Sunday Lunch or serving up some amazing music from our sound system in the evenings and with DJs on weekends.

The venue will be COVID-19 complaint – it will benefit from a seating plan designed to keep diners, drinkers and music fans safe throughout the venue.

With the venue opening next Friday, bookings for drinking and dining can be made via the website at midday on Tuesday 29 September, including bookings for the first Sunday Lunch service on 3 October.
