Where to celebrate Oktoberfest 2020 in Bristol

Posted on: 23 Sep 2020

Try out a new creation from Lost and Grounded or celebrate in Lakota Gardens.

Beer, traditional costume and music: Oktoberfest is an annual celebration of Bavarian heritage.

The folk festival is celebrated around the world, but the main event takes place in Munich, Germany.

For obvious reasons, a night spent in a packed German beer hall is off the cards this year, but not all is lost.

There are still some ways to mark the occasion in Bristol - with the help of social distancing and extra safety measures, of course. Here’s a rundown.

Visit the Lost and Grounded Taproom

Since it was established in 2016, Lost and Grounded has become one of the city’s best-loved breweries with its focus on the peculiarities of Belgian and German brewing.

So, why not visit its BS4 taproom to celebrate Oktoberfest?

On Saturday 26 September, the brewery is hosting two Oktoberfest sessions and is launching a new, traditional annual Fest Bier – The Forest Drift.

“Gently hopped with Mittelfruh, this is our own stunning take on one of the most celebrated lager styles in history,” the team said of the new creation.

Tickets include one pint of Fest Bier and a hot dog from Woozy Pig. Lost and Grounded

Kickback at Lakota Gardens

Over the summer, Lakota’s new outdoor venue, Lakota Gardens, welcomed seated raves, comedy and cabaret. Now, it’s taking on Oktoberfest.

On Saturday 3 October, Lakota Gardens will be transformed into an ‘authentic Bavarian dreamland’, complete with German beer and an Oompah band.

Fancy dress is encouraged, and they’ll be Oktoberfest snacks on offer; including Bratwurst and pretzels.

Tables can seat up to six people and are available to book in two-hour slots. But you’ve got to be quick: the last time we checked, two sessions had already sold out.Lakota Gardens

Pick up some German beers from a local independent

If you’re not in the mood for an event, you can always celebrate Oktoberfest at home with a German beer or two.

In Bristol, you can buy German beers from Bottles and Books on Gloucester Road.

Book a table at The King Street Brew House

A pub and microbrewery with buckets of outdoor seating - of course, we’re talking about the King Street Brew House.

King Street Brew House will be celebrating Oktoberfest until 4 October, with the help of fest-themed beer and tasty specials.

Even better, the pub has decided to extend August’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme throughout September and October, with the same terms as the government scheme. Inside the King Street Brew House, Bristol

Visit a Craft Beer Festival

Now, this isn’t an Oktoberfest celebration – but it’s a chance to enjoy brilliant beer at a vibrant (and socially distanced) event.

From Friday 25 September to Saturday 26 September, the Tobacco Factory is hosting its very own a Craft Beer Festival.

Promising an array of beers and ciders from around the country, the festival will also see DJ sets and street food from local vendors, like High Steaks and Burgerlish.

The full list of breweries taking part includes Bristol favourites Wiper + True, Good Chemistry and Left Handed Giant.

To ensure the safety of staff and guests, the festival will run with ticketed sessions and table service. The Tobacco Factory, BristolRead more:
