Breaking Bread extended into October

Breaking Bread extended into October

Posted on: 17 Sep 2020

Bookings open on Friday, September 18 at 17:00. Get ready!

Have you visited Breaking Bread yet?

It’s an outdoor dining experience on The Downs in Clifton, created by top Bristol chefs and leading local hospitality businesses, including Pasta Loco and The Pony & Trap.

Made up of a socially distanced tipi village, boasting 60 covered dining spaces and an al fresco pub garden, Breaking Bread sent Bristol into a frenzy when it launched in July.

Tables for the Pony & Trap and Loco x Ripiena restaurant pop-ups were snapped up in just days, and The Pipe and Lovers pub garden soon launched its own food menu due to popular demand.

If you haven’t had the chance to visit yet, then you’re in luck: organisers have announced Breaking Bread will be extended into October - with the help of some tweaks.

Here’s what you need to know.

As the autumn nights draw in, some changes will be made to the layout of the pub garden to ensure guests keep warm during their visit.

The existing Pipe and Lovers pub garden (it's a collab between Stokes Croft bars The Love Inn and The Pipe & Slippers), will be brought under canvas.

The food on offer will also be reimagined by chefs Josh Eggleton and Ben Harvey to provide a new take on traditional British pub grub, including an extended Sunday Roast service starting in October.

Josh Eggelton said the extension is a "massive boost for the Bristol hospitality scene" as it moves into "possibly the most critical time of the year so far."

He said: "it enables us to keep over 50 staff employed at a crucial moment as the furlough scheme ends for the industry and we hope this might see us all through to the end of the year.”

The October announcement follows the introduction of live events to the Breaking Bread site.

On Wednesdays, The Pipe and Lovers pub garden is now home to a weekly Comedy Club hosted by Mark Olver.

On Thursdays, local jazz promoters and label Worm Disco Club host a residency at the site, and every Sunday, different food traders will be invited to take over the The Pipe and Lovers' kitchen.

On Sunday 20 September, find Woky Ko in the pub garden kitchen, followed by a special Josh Eggleton ‘All Stars’ session on 27 September.

Now for the really important bit - October bookings.

October reservations for The Pony & Trap and Loco x Ripiena will go live on Friday 18 September at 17:00 via the Breaking Bread website, and bookings for The Pipe & Lovers open on Wednesday 23 September.

Reservations will be available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday lunch and dinner, plus Sunday lunch.
