Celebrate the final week of Bristol Pride 2020

Celebrate the final week of Bristol Pride 2020

Posted on: 07 Sep 2020

The celebration culminates this weekend with a Virtual Pride Day event.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, Bristol Pride has moved online for 2020.

The celebration began on Tuesday 1 September with a series of online fringe events, streaming via Bristol Pride’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Page.

Taking inspiration from the physical event, the series of fringe events will run until Friday (11 September).

Then, on Saturday (12 September), Bristol Pride Online will culminate with a Virtual Pride Day and Parade, which will see more than 40 performances broadcast.

So far, we’ve enjoyed a Poetry Night, a virtual Gaming Day and a Family Day.

Now we’re entering the final few days of this year’s celebration.

Monday 7 September to Friday 11 September: Fringe Events

On Tuesday 8 September, enjoy Bristol Pride’s Virtual Theatre Night, with a piece titled SPLINTERED. The film will stream from 19:30.

Following the production’s success at the 2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Bristol Pride commissioned the piece as a film.

Based on interviews with queer women in Trinidad and Tobago, the piece attempts to unpack what it means to be queer in a homophobic culture.

Next, on Wednesday 9 September, take part in Pride’s Virtual Wellbeing Day.

There’s two yoga sessions taking place, including a Disco Yoga session at 20:00, which you can book onto for free.

On Thursday 10 September, get ready for the celebration’s Virtual Comedy Night.

The comedy showcase will see performances from Jayde Adams, Celya AB, Hannah Brackenbury and Mawaan Rizwan.

Whilst Adams won the 2014 Funny Women award, AB was a finalist in the same awards last year. At the 2019 Funny Women Awards, Hannah Brackenbury won Best Show.

Rizwan starred in six-part ITV series Next of Kin as well as BAFTA-winning Murdered By My Father.

He’s also written for the New York Times, and his comedy videos on YouTube have amassed over 18 million views.

Saturday 12 September: Virtual Pride Day and Parade

The online programme culminates this weekend with a Virtual Pride Day on Saturday 12 September.

The day will kick off with a Virtual Parade in the morning, followed by an afternoon of performances, and an evening of DJ sets.

The Virtual Pride Day is set to include more than 40 performances across four virtual stages, made up of newly recorded performances along with archive footage from previous festivals.

On the Cabaret Stage, expect some Ru Paul Drag Race stars. Visit the New Stage to view emerging talent, and hit up the Dance Performance Stage to watch everything from street dance to Zumba.

On the Main Stage, get ready for some some special archive footage, like Mel C's 2019 performance with Sink The Pink and Alexandra Burke's 2018 appearance.

Later on, join the After Party: Horse Meat Disco, Grrrl Crush and Bitch, Please! are among the names performing DJ sets late into the night via Twitch
