Celebrate the lives of loved ones and support Children’s Hospice South West

Support the only children’s hospice in the South West and remember a loved one by moonlight.

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) is inviting people to remember and celebrate the life of a loved one and raise vital funds for the charity.

Usually, the charity runs a five mile Moonlight Memory Walk.

It's a chance for walkers to join together in person and remember their loved ones with a special candle lit ceremony.

But this year, the event is taking place entirely online.

On Saturday 26 September at 21:00, a Memories by Moonlight ceremony will be broadcast live on Facebook from CHSW’s Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell.

The ceremony will give people the opportunity to light a candle and join together virtually for a special evening of reflection.

Memories by Moonlight will feature readings from all three of the charity’s children’s hospices, as well as music, poems and a two-minute applause to celebrate loved ones whose names will appear on the screen.

Kiley Pearce, Events Fundraiser for CHSW commended:

“Due to the pandemic, the charity has had to adapt many things over the last few months – the care and support we offer to children as well as the fundraising events that help to fund that vital support for more than 500 local families.

“We hope our new Memories by Moonlight event will give people a lovely way to support the work we do while remembering their loved ones.”

To take part in the virtual memory ceremony, visit the CHSW website to register. Registration costs £10.

Those registered will receive a memory pack in the post, which will include a candle bag to decorate, along with a tea light to light on the evening and a booklet to accompany the memory ceremony.

In the run-up to the ceremony, participants can choose to complete a walk or activity that reminds them of their loved one, asking friends and family to donate. Alternatively, participants can choose to donate in their memory.

These activities will support CHSW’s fundraising effort, supporting more than 500 families currently being cared for at the charity's three hospices.

Kiley added: “We are delighted to be bringing Memories by Moonlight to people across Bristol and beyond.

“We look forward to connecting with everyone joining us for the memory ceremony on the evening of September 26, which we are sure will be a very special night.”

CHSW is the only children’s hospice in the South West.

It costs around £11 million to run its three hospice sites each year, and the charity relies almost entirely on voluntary contributions.

CHSW delivers a range of services including specialist play, music therapy, activities for siblings, palliative and emergency care, end of life care, bereavement support and specialist medical care.

These services are free for families, and are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
