Bristol Pride shares more lineup news

Posted on: 11 Aug 2020

A virtual dog show, comedy and a Wellbeing Day are included on this year’s lineup.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, Bristol Pride is moving online for 2020, hence Bristol Pride Online.

From Tuesday 1 September until Friday 11 September, a series of virtual fringe events will be streamed via Bristol Pride’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Then, on Saturday 12 September, the celebration will culminate with a Virtual Pride Day and Parade, which will see more than 30 performances broadcast.

Yesterday (10 August), Bristol Pride revealed more details of the virtual lineup, with all events aiming to celebrate and unite the LGBTQ+ community, and to stand up against hatred.

Here’s a few highlights from the free-to-access event.

Tuesday 1 September to Friday 11 September: Bristol Pride Online Fringe Events

Bristol Pride Online will take inspiration from the physical event, adapting popular events for online.

These include the event’s Dog (+Others) Show on Sunday 6 September, a comedy night, and Bristol Pride’s theatre night on Tuesday 8 September.

The theatre night will see a specially commissioned online performance of SPLINTERED, based upon interviews with queer women in Trinidad and Tobago.

And the comedy night will see performances from Jayde Adams, Tom Allen and Celya AB.

On Saturday 5 September, join Bristol Pride Online for a Family Day, featuring Drag Queen storytelling, interactive dance party workshops and a singalong.

A Wellbeing Day will focus on mindfulness and yoga (did someone say Disco Yoga?), and the celebration’s film festival, Queer Vision, will showcase brilliant short films.

In response to this summer’s Black Lives Matter protests, Bristol Pride is also staging a conference in partnership with KIKI Bristol to discuss intersectionality, visibility and spaces within the community.

Saturday 12 September: Virtual Pride Day and Parade

The online programme will culminate with a Virtual Pride Day on Saturday 12 September, boasting a Virtual Parade in the morning, and an afternoon of performances.

Packed with the sorts of acts you’d expect to see during a physical Pride Day at The Downs, the Virtual Pride Day is set to include 30 pre-recorded performances and a few special shout outs.

The Great British Bake Off stars will join local participant Briony Williams for a rainbow bake tutorial, and over on the virtual Cabaret Stage, expect some Ru Paul Drag Race stars.

Virtual Pride Day will also see some special archive footage from previous years, Mel C's 2019 performance with Sink The Pink.

Over the next week, Bristol Pride will announce more acts, events and timings.
