Bristol City Robins Foundation deliver more than 20,000 meals to people in need

Posted on: 19 Jun 2020

Volunteers have been delivering meals and essentials to vulnerable members of the community throughout lockdown.

The Bristol City Robins Foundation has officially delivered over 20,000 meals to people in need through March, April, May and June, having launched a community initiative in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The organisation has worked alongside Ashton Gate Stadium and charities across the Bristol Sport group to significantly increase their efforts to provide vulnerable and at-risk people with deliveries of food and other essentials.

Using their extensive knowledge of the local community, and bolstered by an extensive group of local people and businesses volunteering their time, the Robins Foundation have been able to deliver hundreds of meal packages across the city every week.

From preparing food to packaging meals at Ashton Gate Stadium and helping the Foundation to deliver them door-to-door, volunteers have played a pivotal role in the initiative.

Speaking on the news that the Foundation had surpassed the 20,000-meal mark, Projects & Partnerships Manager, James Edwards, said:

“Our team of staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly since the start of the coronavirus pandemic to support vulnerable young people in our community.

“We are so incredibly grateful to everyone who has offered to support us, these volunteers have been invaluable to our operation."

Despite lockdown measures easing and parts of the city reopening to the public, the worst-hit parts of the community will continue to be affected by COVID-19 in the coming weeks and months.

With that in mind, the Bristol City Robins Foundation's food delivery drive will continue to support vulnerable people in the local community for the foreseeable future.
