The Mother's Ruin joins #SaveOurVenues campaign, launches crowdfunder

Posted on: 15 May 2020

In just three days, the venue has raised over £4,000 of its £15,000 target.

Popular city centre pub and live music space, The Mother's Ruin, has launched a crowdfunder to help it through the coronavirus outbreak.

The crowndfunder has been launched as part of a nationwide fundraising effort founded by Music Venue Trust, #SaveOurVenues.

Launched at the end of April, the #SaveOurVenues campaign aims to raise money for grassroots music venues across the UK, to ensure their survival amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Fellow Bristol music venues, including The Louisiana, The Exchange and The Old England joined the fundraising campaign upon its launch, and started up their own, individual fundraisers.

Now The Mother's Ruin has joined the campaign, launching a crowdfunder to help to cover running costs during its temporary closure, including rent and bills.

On Tuesday 12 May, the venue announced it would participate in the campaign:

"We are pleased to announce we're part of a national initiative #saveourvenues launched by the Music Venue Trust to prevent the closure of 100s of independent music venues around the country."

"As you know times are tough and it is no different for us so please, if you can, support our campaign of rewards to help get us through the next few months.

The Mother's Ruin fundraising target is £15,000, to cover venue rent and bills whilst its doors remain closed.

Over £4,000 of this target has been raised already by over 180 supporters.

"Our venue faces a risk of closure because of being closed due to Covid19," the venue's crowdfunding page expands.

"Bills and rent still need to be paid, and with no end in sight for the venues lockdown, we need to do some fundraising to financially secure the premises of Mothers' Ruin."

"Your donations and reward purchases will be used to keep the venue open and put together a programme of live shows upon our return."

Launched in 2007, The Mother's Ruin is a hotspot for alternative, indie and rock club nights.

It's a Bristol favourite, with locals and visitors alike. Abi Ward, Women In Live Music's 'Stage Manager of the Year 2019', even mentions her love for The Mother's Ruin in this interview.

To help push the fundraiser forward, The Mother's Ruin has added some incentives for donors to enjoy once the venue reopens.

If you donate £10 or more, The Mother's Ruin will let you control their Spotify playlist for a whole hour. Or, for £30 or more, you'll become a VIP for the night, with Happy Hour (on selected items) all night long.
