Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja pitches in with the Bristol Food Union

The revered musician got hands-on in the kitchen as part of the Bristol Food Union's drive to limit the impact of COVID-19 on Bristol communities.

Singer-songwriter and founding member of Massive Attack Robert Del Naja has been hard at work with the Bristol Food Union this week, preparing and cooking dishes for frontline staff working in the BRI's intensive care unit.

Del Naja's efforts follow Massive Attack's generous £10,000 donation to the Bristol Food Union's Feed The Frontline campaign, which is aiming to raise a total of £100,000 to provide 6 weeks' worth of food to frontline communities, those experiencing poverty and the NHS.

In a time of genuine crisis, the BFU team have been working tirelessly to ensure that frontline workers and at-risk communities across Bristol don't have to worry about sourcing healthy, nutritious meals for themselves and their families.

Since launching their Feed The Frontline campaign five weeks ago, the Bristol Food Union have raised more than £29,000 in donations, delivered 4,000 meals to the frontline, paid £18,000 to independent restaurants and suppliers for their help in producing meals, and delivered 600 weekly provisions boxes to foster carers across the city.

Led by Aine Morris of Food Union Media, Josh Eggleton of the Pony & Trap group and Steph Wetherell of Bristol Food Producers, the Bristol Food Union brings together some of the city's top independent restaurants, local farmers, food retailers and community food infrastructure to support Bristol's emergency food provision.

As the COVID-19 crisis wears on, the BFU have established steady, sustainable production kitchens in closed restaurants around the city, and are currently supporting Caring in Bristol to feed 500 homeless people every day as part of the Cheers Drive project.

The Bristol Food Union's Feed The Frontline crowdfunding campaign is open now and can be found here. For more information or to find out how else you can help the BFU, head to their website.
