Charity compilation album of Bristol music launched in response to coronavirus

Posted on: 06 Apr 2020

The compilation will raise money for The Quartet Foundation's 2020 Coronavirus Response Fund.

Today (Monday 6 April) a brand-new compilation album of Bristol music has launched.

The album, titled The Ark, is being distributed via Bandcamp to raise funds for The Quartet Community Foundation's Coronavirus Response Fund.

The Ark Volume 1 is comprised of twenty tracks from local musicians, including BEAK>, Harvey Causon, and The Plainviews (featuring Dev from IDLES.)

The album has been compiled by local musician and senior BIMM lecturer John E. Vistic.

The project began when Vistic tried to think of ways the local music community could support those most in need amid the coronavirus crisis.

Following a speculative Facebook post explaining the idea, Vistic instantly received replies and support.

In the space of a week, Vistic has gathered three albums-worth of material, donated from local musicians for free.

And so, the charity album will be split into three volumes, the first of which has been released today.

The album has been mastered by Shawn and Rhys of Optimum and features artwork by Johnny Stingray.

To accompany the release, Vistic also plans on hosting a series of ARK concerts when it is safe to do so, featuring artists from the compilation.

All money raised from The Ark compilations will go towards the The Quartet Charity's Coronavirus Response Fund.

The charity's Coronavirus Response Fund aims to support local activities that are helping communities affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

Emergency funding will be allocated to local charitable and community organisations to support emerging challenges faced within local communities. The fund is now open for applications.

Sue Turner, chief executive of Quartet Community Foundation, said:

"Just last week we made the first grants, totalling over £70,000 which will be in the hands of grass-roots community organisations straight away.

"We are targeting the funding in the first instance at supporting projects looking after our most disadvantaged people."

"Any funding that you're able to contribute to the Coronavirus 2020 Response Fund will be put to work extremely efficiently," Sue added.

"Thank you so much for all that you are doing to support disadvantaged people in our area."

The Ark (Vol. 1) costs £12 and can be purchased via Bandcamp
