Tonight at The Arcade: discover Mojdeh Stoakley, Chicago’s award-winning artist
Posted on: 07 Nov 2019Space Invaders, an art exhibition currently displayed in The Arcade, has brought together some of the city’s most exciting artists and creators in recent weeks.
Featuring the resident artists of a local creative hub, Puppet Place, the exhibition has seen sculpture, illustration and film in Units 12 and 26 of the historic shopping quarter.
Tonight, the exhibition will round-up its six-week exhibition with a unique event. Want to learn about the philosophy of history, and then listen to a bit of Afrofuturism spoken word? Now’s your chance.
Starting at 17:00, the Space Invaders exhibition will welcome Chicago’s Mojdeh Stoakley, an award-winning writer, performer and educator, for an interactive writing workshop.
To follow, the gallery will see a one-off performance from THE AFRO+NAUT, an Afrofuturist spoken word and music project which aims to generate social discourse through experimental hip hop and poetry.
Named as Guild Literary Complex’s 2019 ‘Writer to Watch’, Mojdeh Stoakley’s multi-genre work has been featured by the BBC, SlamFind, WBEZ, and Vocalo.
A well-known slam poet, she was also a 2019 nominee for 'Best Spoken Word Artist' at the Chicago Music Awards, among other accolades. Find out more about Mojdeh here.
Tonight, Mojdeh’s interactive workshop will focus on the philosophy of history and its potential intersections in the future; and the workshop is open to all writing abilities.
Open to all ages, the late gallery opening has an entry fee of £5. After the performance, visitors are encouraged to explore the gallery until 19:30.
