Seven Bristol restaurants included in 2020 Michelin Guide

Posted on: 09 Oct 2019

The 2020 Michelin Guide has been officially released, and seven Bristol restaurants have been recognised with either Bib Gourmand or Michelin Star certification.

It's no secret among Bristolians that their city has become something of a foodie haven over the years. Now, a selection of its best and brightest have been deservedly certified in this year's Michelin Guide.

Established in the food industry for over 50 years, the Michelin Star is one of the most prestigious awards a restaurant can receive, and they're highly coveted around the world.

The 2020 Michelin Guide was released yesterday, and we're pleased to report that no less than five Bristol restaurants - Bulrush, Casamia, Paco Tapas, The Pony & Trap and Wilks - have been awarded a Star, while Root and Box-E (both on Whapping Wharf) have been certified as Bib Gourmand, a slightly less prestigious but highly sought after title.

Bulrush

Set over two floors on Cotham Road in BS6, Bulrush showcases local, often organic, ingredients with a focus on preserving and pickling key ingredients. Their imaginative tasting menu is a popular choice for regulars and first-timers alike, with original combinations that provide plenty of contrast.

Casamia

Probably the best-known eatery on this list, Casamia is regarded among the best in the country and has been recognised in the past as the UK's best restaurant outside of London.

The establishment has held on to a Michelin Star since 2009, making this the 12th consecutive year they've been given the accolade, and its reviews say it all: you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who's eaten at Casamia and doesn't think they deserve it.

Casamia

Wilks

Run by experienced and well-travelled couple James and Christine Wilkins, Wilks is a small and unpretentious restaurant located on Chandos Road, Redland.

Balancing a wide range of textures and flavours to create top-quality dishes, the kitchen produces primarily British and French dishes, but uses ingredients and techniques from around the world.

Paco Tapas

Paco Tapas is a new addition to the Michelin Star list. Owned by the same family that run Casamia and in a fantastic city centre location, the energetic tapas bar is set around a large open grill where its delicious, authentic dishes are cooked.

Paco's special Chef's Menu is a favourite here, offering a best-of-the-best tour of Spain which includes clams, Jamon croquetas, wood-roast gambas and more.

The Pony & Trap

Located in Chew Magna in BS40 The Pony & Trap is certainly the most remote spot on the list of 2020 Michelin Star Bristol restaurants, but it benefits from being surrounded by the breathtaking landscape of the Chew Valley and aims to reflect the beauty of the area in its dishes.

Expect vibrant seasonal textures and flavours, cooked to perfection and served with passion by a team whose focus on fresh, local produce has endeared them to the area and earned them well-deserved Michelin recognition.

Three Whapping Wharf establishments have also been awarded the Bib Gourmand certification: Root, who have retained their from last year, and Box-E, a new entry onto the list in 2020.
