Blues rocker Walter Trout to play live in Bristol as part of 2019 tour
Posted on: 20 Sep 2019Esteemed blues artist Walter Trout will be performing at The Fleece on Tuesday 8th October as part of a 2019 UK tour in support of brand-new album, Survivor Blues.
Respected by the old guard and revered by young and upcoming artists, Walter Trout is a beating heart of the modern blues-rock scene. After more than five decades in the thick of it, he's a talismanic figure among the genre's community.
Having played and released music both solo and as part of successful blues acts like Walter Trout and the Free Radicals and John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, the prolific singer-songwriter released an extensive covers album back in January.
Titled 'Survivor Blues', the record moves away from heavily covered blues 'greatest hits' and towards older, more obscure songs that rarely get covered.
“I’m riding in my car sometimes, and I’ve got a blues station on – and here’s another band doing 'Got My Mojo Workin.' And there’s a little voice in me that says, ‘does the world need another version of that song?’ So I came up with an idea," Trout explains.
"I didn’t want to do ‘Stormy Monday’ or ‘Messin’ With The Kid.’ I didn’t want to do the Blues greatest hits. That's how Survivor Blues was born."
Making sure to bring together a roster of artists talented enough to do the chosen tracks justice, 'Survivor Blues' features thunderous drummer Michael Leasure, bassist Jonny Griparic, regular collaborator Skip Edwards on keys and guest appearances from Sugaray Rayford and The Doors' Robby Kreiger.
Heading back to the UK for a full headline tour in October, Trout will be performing in London, Exeter, Southampton, Norwich, Brighton, Bristol, Birmingham, York and Edinburgh before closing the tour at Rocktober in Sheffield.
