Guitar virtuoso Paul Gilbert to open 2019 UK headline tour at The Fleece this SeptemberPosted on: 31 Jul 2019
Acclaimed American guitarist Paul Gilbert will be embarking on an eagerly-anticipated UK headline tour later this year, kicking things off with a Bristol show at The Fleece on Monday 16th September. Tickets for the gig are on sale now and can be found via the link below.
Having released more than fifteen albums and EPs over the course of a prolific career in music, guitar maestro Paul Gilbert will be going on the road to perform a huge solo headline tour across the UK in September 2019.
His latest studio album, titled 'I Can Destroy' and released in May this year, grapples with the concept of pushing his creativity to its limits in order to grow as an artist and continue to develop his sound, 35 years after his first foray into music as part of US band Racer X.
“One thing I’ve always struggled with as a writer is I don’t think I’ve written a lot of songs that make it easy on the improviser,” Gilbert admits when discussing the record. “Coming from a heavy rock background, that’s been a real challenge. But I worked really hard to rework all my fingerings so I could emphasize different tones the way my ear hears them. I’m still working on it, but that was a major step forward for me as a guitar player — to be able to get that sound on purpose, rather than by accident.”
As a result of his desire to continue to push the boundaries of both his own sound and the constructs of a range of genres, 'I Can Destroy' spans several genres and textures, from the full-frontal assault of 'Everybody Use Your Goddamn Turn Signal' to the stripped-back jazz-blues sound of 'One Woman Too Many'.
Having toured extensively over the years, both as a solo artist and as a member of full bands including Racer X and Mr Big, Gilbert is well-equipped to embark on an ambitious solo UK run, titled the Behold Electric Guitar Tour, this September. Kicking things off at The Fleece on Monday 16th, he'll go on to perform in Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Reading, Southampton, London and Birmingham before closing at the Craufurd Arms in Milton Keynes on Tuesday 24th.
