Smash-hit musical Mamma Mia to return to Bristol in June 2020!

Cult classic musical Mamma Mia will be setting up shop in Bristol next year for a run of shows at the famous Hippodrome in June 2020. Based on the music of all-conquering Swedish pop group ABBA, Mamma Mia is a jukebox musical written by British playwright Catherine Johnson with a musical score composed by Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, two of the four original members of the band.

 

The story follows hotelier Donna as she prepares for her daughter's wedding in the Greek islands with the help of two old friends. Spirited bride Sophie, meanwhile, has a plan to invite three men from her mother's past to the ceremony in the hope of meeting her real father and having him escort her down the aisle on her big day.

 

Featuring hits like 'Super Trouper', 'Lay All Your Love On Me''Dancing Queen'Voulez-Vous'Take A Chance On Me', 'The Winner Takes It All' and, of  course, the famous title track, the musical has become one of the world's most famous and best-loved since its 1999 debut, seen by over 60 million people around the world. The film adaptation also received rave reviews, starring Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and Julie Walters in 2008.

 

Mamma Mia: The Musical will be shown at the Bristol Hippodrome from Tuesday 2nd-Saturday 20th June 2020, with a variety of performances penned in including evening and matinee shows. This is absolutely certain to be one of the theatrical highlights of the year so do not miss out!
