Malcolm X Centre to host official St Paul's Carnival 2019 Old School AfterpartyPosted on: 29 May 2019
It's now little over a month until St Paul's Carnival comes bursting back onto the streets in early July following a successful return in 2018 that saw over 100,000 people celebrate the event's 50th anniversary! The organisers have today confirmed the details of the 2019 St Paul's Carnival afterparty, due to take place at The Malcolm X Community Centre on the evening of Saturday 6th July. Find all the info below.
Taking the Carnival back to its foundations when it would last well into the early hours of the following morning, The Malcolm X Centre is set to host an unforgettable party soundtracked by classic tunes from a range of genres. As the Carnival soundsystems play their last songs and the day draws to a close, the party goes on with the official Old School Afterparty.
Local DJs will be spinning tracks from the golden era of carnival throughout the night, from rare grooves to 80s soul classics, raggae, soca, dancehall and everything in between. Ujima Radio will be represented on the night by DJ Style and DJ Fagan, while pioneering Old School legend Donovan (City Rockas) and the ever-popular Scratchilus will also be taking over to put their own stamp on proceedings. The night will be hosted by Bandyt and former MC for The Wild Bunch Krissy Kris.
Tickets for this one are available now at just £9 plus booking fee, but will be in very high demand so we recommend you act now and book yours online here or from Bristol Ticket Shop (41 High Street, Bristol BS1 2AT / 01179299008) or Pride Hair & Beauty Salon (236 Stapleton Rd Easton, Bristol BS5 0NT / 01179519518). Any remaining tickets will be available in very limited numbers on the door on the night but will be more expensive, so book yours now to avoid disappointment!
The theme for Carnival this year is 'Our Journey', in honour of the journey the original Windrush Generation took to settle in the UK. For more information on this year's event and what to expect, check out our preview here.
