The very best late-night takeaways in Bristol

Posted on: 22 May 2019

We all love a kebab at the end of a night out, and to help you avoid wasting time and money on sub-par snacks, here we present this list of Bristol’s best late-night takeaways. No matter which club you’ve been to, how long for, or how many drinks you’ve managed while you were there, one thing’s for sure: you’re gonna want something greasy to eat before you go home.

Slix, Stokes Croft, Bristol.

Taka Taka - 3 Queens Rd, Bristol BS8 1EZ // Unit 2, Corner of Rupert St & Bridewell St, Bristol BS1 2QH

Taka Taka is a purveyor of some of the best Greek dishes in the city and has now opened a city centre branch following the success of its original store on the Triangle. Their Magic Box and Magic Wraps have become the stuff of legend among Bristolians and students who frequent the bars and clubs on and around Park Street - make sure you give it a go as soon as you can.

Slix - 89-91 Stokes Croft, Bristol BS1 3RD

The lower part of Stokes Croft is inundated with takeaways, and so it surely takes some doing to stand out head and shoulders above the rest. The food at Slix is by no means the best you can get in the area – far from it, even – but it has become something of a Bristol institution over the years. You’ll almost certainly find yourself in there at some point on a night out at any of the clubs and bars in the Stokes Croft area, with Lakota, Blue Mountain, The Love Inn, Full Moon, Crofters Rights, No. 51's and Take Five Cafe all a short walk away.

Taka Taka on Queen's Road, Bristol.

The Grecian - 2 Cromwell Rd, Bristol BS6 5AA

The Grecian is another one that might be a bit out of the way for a lot of Bristolians that are used to spending their nights out in the city centre, but it's a firm favourite among residents and students in and around Montpelier and St Andrews. The well-loved kebab house earned even more adoration from locals last year, when they quickly reopened for business following a huge fire to do what they do best: preparing and serving some of the best pizzas in Bristol for just five quid a time.

Jason Doner Van - Top of Park Street

Burger vans are always a safe bet at the end of the night. Always ready, always waiting, always showing you the way when you’re after something big to fill your stomach at the end of a night out. The brilliantly named Jason Doner Van is just that, offering burgers, chips, kebabs and more, sat at the top of Park Street a short walk from all the nearby pubs, bars and clubs. The bloke who runs it is pretty sound, but unfortunately is not - and isn't even a relation of - Aussie TV star Jason Donovan.

Maxin Chicken, Gloucester Road, Bristol.

Maxin Chicken - 364 Gloucester Rd, Bristol BS7 8TP

Another one that's a bit out of the way for most of you, Maxin Chicken is pretty much the authority on greasy takeaway food in the Bishopston/Horfield area, offering up crispy fried chicken until the early hours of the morning every day of the week. Legend has it the same bloke who always seems to be manning the kitchen at Maxin’s never actually leaves the shop, functioning on a diet of chicken skins and cans of Rio in order to stay awake and alert around the clock.

Rita's Takeaway - 94 Stokes Croft, Bristol BS1 3RJ

Rita's has got a lot of competition in Stokes Croft, with Luna's Pizza, Lick'n Chicken and the infamous Slix all within a stone's throw, but they get the nod from us thanks to their friendly service, big portions and good in-store vibes. Perfectly positioned for a quick run out from The Love Inn for a bag of chips half way through the night, Rita's also serve loaded kebabs, burgers, fried chicken and more, blasting aggressive but groovy middle-eastern funk all night long.
