Don't miss acclaimed hip-hop artist Lowkey tonight at The Fleece as part of 2019 comeback tour

Posted on: 26 Apr 2019

Renowned hip-hop prophet Lowkey made a surprise comeback this month with Soundtrack To The Struggle 2, a direct sequel to his last official full-length album, released in 2011 to widespread critical acclaim. His 2019 tour marks a triumphant return to music, and he's in Bristol tonight for a hotly-anticipated show at The Fleece. Tickets are running seriously low for this one so get yours while you still can via the link below.

Lowkey at The Fleece.

Certainly one of the most socially-conscious artists on the UK's underground hip-hop scene and often discussed in the same breath as musician, writer and intellectual Akala, Lowkey's Soundtrack To The Struggle 2 represents yet another scathing dissection of issues surrounding race, war, poverty and politics with unmatchably tight lyricism and rousing hooks.

Featuring samples from Noam Chomsky, Ken Loach and Frankie Boyle among others, the album has positioned Lowkey even further ahead of his contemporaries, and his message is clear. Tracks like 'Ghosts of Grenfell' (which features the accomplished vocals of Mia Khalil) and 'Ahmed' are a far cry from the radio-friendly and content-light hip-hop music of today, and carry an essential element of social commentary.

Born in 1986 to an Iraqi mother and English father, Lowkey first started rapping as early as age 12 and released his first music in 2003. A long hiatus followed until 2009 when he released his first full-length album, Dear Listener, and collaborated with Reverend and the Makers frontman Jon McClure, Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders and members of Babyshambles to form the group Mongrel. His second and, to date, most universally well-received album came in 2011 in the form of the original Soundtrack To The Struggle.

Back with a bang in 2019, Lowkey still has a lot to say and there's no denying that he knows exactly how to say it. Don't miss him tonight at The Fleece as part of the Return of Lowkey Tour.
