Don't miss a fantastic variety of events at The Rising Sun throughout this weekend

Posted on: 18 Apr 2019

This is not a drill - we're officially about to enter into a FOUR DAY WEEKEND. It's not every week we get bank holidays either side of a weekend so it's important that every single one of us in Bristol take the opportunity to make the most of it. The Rising Sun in Windmill Hill are more than happy to oblige, with a full weekend of events and offers boasting something for everyone.

Summer Editions at The Rising Sun.

Thursday - Open Mic Night

Running every Thursday is The Rising Sun's renowned Open Mic Night, run and organised by host Al Fraser Green from Beyond Rivers. Anyone and everyone is welcome to give it a go, and there's a free drink for every performer so even if you're shit, there's a silver lining waiting for you once you've finished.

Friday - Red Ray and the Reprobates Live

The band of The Rising Sun's bar manager, Red Ray and the Reprobates probably didn't need to call in much of a favour to bag this gig but their action-packed sets have become the stuff of legend around Windmill Hill and beyond. They're not just a pub band, but a thoroughly decent live act, as a review of one of their support shows at Bristol's O2 Academy last year will tell you:

"Red Ray & the Reprobates opened the proceedings and to be frank were cheered to the rafters before they even plugged in their kit. That was no surprise as the band have a large and loyal following around town, and they made a lot of new fans with a barnstorming 45-minute set packing in a rake of originals and a solitary cover. There are three reasons why they went down so well, and if you’ve not encountered them, you should make it a priority to do so."

Saturday - Lord Dubs spinning classic 45s

Dancing is very much encouraged here as we approach the anniversary of Jesus' resurrection by having a proper knees-up, just like the big man would've wanted. Lord Dubs' expertly-selected mix of 70s, 80s, Motown, funk, soul, reggae, pop, electronica and everything in between will be the perfect way to see in Easter Sunday, and the perfect precursor to a huge Sunday roast as you nurse a hangover the day after. Ideal.
