Japanese culture is one of the most popular in the world - and now you can celebrate its great, cool, offbeat, unmistakable traditions in a special evening event at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery on Thursday 4th April 2019.

Ultra Japan will let you immerse yourself in the unique culture of Japan which is steeped in fascinating history and probably most immediately associated with aspects such as geishas, samurais, varieties of tea, beautifully ornate gardens, kimonos and, more recently, incredible Manga comics and films.

See the exhibition before it’s too late!
Japanese DJ Suzuki usually entertains the masses at international festivals, but for one night only he'll be putting in a special Bristol appearance, plundering his musical archives to provide an eclectic set traversing 80's Japanese pop to contemporary rock, J-pop and hip hop.

Excitingly, artists amongst you will get the chance to learn to draw with professional Manga artist Chie Kutsuwada, plus the opportunity to have a go at mask-making and origami.

Bristol Taiko, Bristol Kendo and Bristol North Akido Dojo will put on spectacular performances throughout the evening, while those with a hankering for a late night sartorial makeover can try on a stunning, traditional kimono or an anime-inspired costume with film and TV costume designer Pam Tait - and, naturally, take a selfie.

The venue's cafe and bar will open for the duration so no need to worry about sustenance and libations, plus you can also sip on some authentic Japanese tea as part of a special tea ceremony.

It's a fantastic way to explore the museum after hours so you can roam around and enjoy the venue in a way that you wouldn't usually get a chance to. And, seeing as you'll be in a suitably Japanese-inspired frame of mind, you could also check out the Masters of Japanese Prints: Life in the City exhibition, which looks at the urban culture of 18th and 19th century Japan, offering thrilling insights in to the period's fashion, daily life, kabuki theatre and geisha.

Ultra Japan will take place from 7 pm until 10 pm. Tickets cost £6 adults (£5 concessions), £4 for ages 25 and under. You'll need to book in advance, and you can do precisely that right here
