With the coveted ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy arriving in Bristol this weekend as part of the countdown to the tournament, Gloucestershire Cricket will be delivering a series of very special events from Friday 8th-Sunday 10th March 2019. From a school's competition to a street festival and a club engagement event at GCCC's very own Bristol County Ground, Westcountry cricket fans simply cannot afford to miss it.

Starting this Friday the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy will be in Bristol for three days, visiting destinations across the city to spark excitement ahead of this summer's World Cup. The standout event of the weekend will certainly be a street festival on St Mark's Road from 2pm-5pm on Saturday 9th, featuring cricketing activities, food, music and more on one of Bristol's most vibrant streets. Local shops will be getting involved and the roads will be fully closed off to traffic to maximise the fun!

Sunday 10th March will kick off with a special club engagement event at the Bristol County Ground, the venue for three of the official World Cup fixtures this summer. Shaping Cricket In Bristol will be hosted by BBC Points West presenter and lifelong cricket fan Sabet Choudhury and feature former Gloucestershire bowler and current ECB head of strategy Vikram Banerjee. Aimed specifically at cricket fans and players from black and ethnic minority (BAME) backgrounds, the event will offer a unique opportunity for attendees to give their views on what can be done to make cricket more accessible and appealing. The forum will also include a food festival featuring cuisine from the different World Cup nations.

There will also be a huge cricket competition taking place to kick proceedings off on Friday 8th March, with 240 children from 20 local schools set to take part. Aside from the packed events schedule, Bristol locals will get the chance to see the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy up close, on display at the SS Great Britain and the First Bristol Scout Group (Friday 8th) and at Downend Cricket Club on the morning of Saturday 9th.

GCB cricket operations manager Chris Munden said: “With the ICC Cricket World Cup coming to England – including three matches in Bristol – this year provides us with a once in a generation chance to inspire people to get involved with our great game. Our aim is to take the Trophy around Bristol engaging new audiences, exciting cricket fans about the competition and inspiring all generations to be involved in the game. Hundreds of young people will have the opportunity to see the Trophy itself as well take part in activities at one of our seven stops across the city."

Bristol County Ground will be hosting three World Cup matches this summer, as Australia take on Afghanistan on 1st June, with Sri Lanka featuring in two fixtures against Pakistan (7th June) and Bangladesh (11th June). Tickets and further information for those matches are available here
