Way back in 1982, ET phoned home. Next year, in 2019, the odd-looking but lovable alien will beam down to Bristol Hippodrome for a very special screening of Steven Spielberg's classic film E.T. The Extra Terrestrial with live orchestral accompaniment on Wednesday 24th April 2019.

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial in Concert at Bristol Hippodrome

Spielberg's magical movie bewitched and enchanted moviegoers all over the world when it was first released and became the most successful, highest grossing film of all time and the 80s. It was eventually knocked off the celluloid top-spot in 1993 - propitiously enough by Spielberg himself - with his groundbreaking dino epic, Jurassic Park.

Following the moving tale of an abandoned and lost alien who befriends 10-year-old Elliot (Henry Thomas), it immediately spellbound and captivated the world with a heartbreaking, universal tale of friendship and love that is still considered one of the greatest films ever made.

Often imitated but never bettered (remember Mac and Me?!), its excellent ensemble cast includes Dee Wallace, Robert MacNaughton, Drew Barrymore and Peter Coyote, and, of course, the unforgettable E.T. himself, designed by Italian special effects supremo Carlo Rambaldi, who had previously created the aliens for Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Equal to all of this, however, is John Williams' unforgettable, soaring music which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Original Score. Like the film itself, Williams' music is touching, heartfelt, beautiful, poignant, whimsical, heroic, adventurous and ultimately very moving, topped off by the wonderfully exultant, unforgettable Flying Theme that remains a regular favourite performed at film music concerts today.

Part of the Colston Hall Presents at Bristol Hippodrome series which is hosting events and gigs at various venues around the city while the Hall itself undergoes a major refurb, this is your chance to relive the wonder and exhilaration of this incredible film on a massive HD screen with a live, full symphony orchestra playing the score in sync to the picture.

Heartwarming, uplifting and transcendently magical, this is your chance to catch E.T. The Extra Terrestrial in a stunning new print accompanied by the full majestic, sublime musical genius of John Williams' masterly, classic soundtrack performed live-to-film.

Ticket prices range from £35.30 to £63.80 (including booking fees) and are available online here or check the Facebook event.

This is a Colston Hall presents event but is being held at The Bristol Hippodrome, St Augustine's Parade, Bristol BS1 4UZ.
