The Room presented by Bristol Bad Film Club 12th February
Posted on: 05 Feb 2016Bristol Bad Film Club will be showing The Room on 12th February at the Redgrave Theatre. This so-bad-its-good film has become a cult hit over the years, after Michael Rousselet and Scott Gairdner saw the original run in a cinema in 2003, and brought 100 friends to the final screening, believing it to be the last time the film would be seen again. They threw plastic spoons and footballs at the screen, running amock in the cinema, and this has become something of a tradition.
Although it is only shown at specialist midnight movie viewings these days, they tend to sell out completely, and people will greet the vision of a plastic spoon or a football by slinging one of their own.
Tommy Wiseau, the director, writer, chief financier, and lead actor of the film, has since said he intended the film to be full of those cringe-worthy so-bad-its-good elements. However, most people don’t believe this, and it’s definitely funnier to experience the film as a product of earnest sentiment.
Predictably, the Bristol Bad Film Club showing has completely sold out, but with the upcoming James Franco film based around its production and strange creation, there may just be a chance to see it very soon...
