Porphyrophobia, a film by two Bristol screenwriters premieres on Thursday night - 29 May 2014 - at The Orpheus in Henleaze

Back in March of this year 365Bristol caught up with Bristol screenwriters Paul Holbrook and Sam Dawe to discuss their Porphyrophobia project.

A mere two months later (we'd like to think it's the 365Bristol effect), their short film, Porphyrophobia is due to be premiered in a private screening at The Orpheus Cinema in Henleaze on Thursday 29th May 2014.

Porphyrophobia is a short film that was successfully funded through Kickstarter. This is an opportunity for backers, supporters, friends and family of the two Bristol screenwriters to come and take a look at the final product. Billed as a dark comedy, Porphyrophobia tells the story of a rare celestial event that has an extraordinary impact on a stir crazy mother and her peculiar, adult son stricken with a debilitating phobia. She longs for escape, but is imprisoned by her commitment to his vulnerabilities. Cabin fever sets in as a rare, celestial event draws near..

The screening tomorrow evening will be the only private screening shown prior to the film being set free on the national and international festival circuit and so represents a great opportunity to see it before this locally produced film starts its journey around the world.

Porphyrophobia is just 18 minutes long, so the organisers have decided to show a small collection of other people's short films that they would like to champion. Some of the shorts that will be shown alongside Porphyrophobia are: Quizmaster, The Butcher's son, The Baker, The Claw & Against the Rails.

The evening of screenings takes place at Bristol's oldest independent cinema, The Orpheus in Henleaze with limited ticket availability. Tickets can be bought from online here and cost just £10 which includes free popcorn! The evening starts at 8pm and will run until around 9.30-10pm with post screening drinks held at the pub opposite, where the cast and crew will be happy to answer any questions that viewers may have.
