Ratchet and Clank - PS4 Gaming Review

Our rating:

Ratchet and Clank is a charming adventure that will have something for adults and children with great humour, gameplay and story.

Ratchet and Clank is an interesting game because platformers are very rare in main stream gaming these days because developers think we don’t want these types of games, but I beg to differ. Ratchet and Clank is a nice change of pace from the gritty and realistic violent games that have been releasing recently. This game has everything for both adults and children with gameplay and story.

Ratchet and Clank Review

You play as Ratchet who is a tech geek who he helps his friend Grim out at the local garage. Ratchet wants to join the Galactic Rangers and he tries the obstacle course and succeeds, but he is refused by the head of the Rangers Captain Qwark due to Ratchet’s erratic behaviour. It’s not long before he stumbles upon a small robot which he names Clank, they both team up to stop the Blarg Empire on a galactic adventure. The story is great with funny and varied characters with fantastic voice acting I especially like Clank’s quips throughout the game they’re both witty and sarcastic.

The gameplay is a mixture of your standard fair of platforming action with third person shooting where you’re doing flips and shooting everything that gets in your way as you collect treasure. The action is satisfying as you run through and dispatch enemies with the weird and wonderful weapons that you can create, from the standard rocket launchers to the more bizarre weapons such as grenades that are disco balls which make enemies dance.

Each level is open ended and you can tackle tasks anyway you want to depending on what abilities you have unlocked at that point. You go through each level collecting nuts and bolts which acts as the game’s currency where you can refill your health and ammunition or you can purchase new weapons. You also gather gems which are far and few because these are used to upgrade weapons that you own so you can up their damage or increase the amount of ammo you can carry for said weapon.

The graphics are beautiful with vibrant colours and a ton of detail gone into each world. This is one of the best looking PS4 games I have played so far it’s like playing an interactive Pixar animation. The animation is spot on with natural and exaggerated movements spliced together, you would think that Pixar themselves worked on this game because it’s that good with details like seeing each individual strands of hair on Ratchet’s head or the metallic sheen of Clank. It’s nice to play a game that doesn’t strive to be realistic with its aesthetic because sometimes we need to have something to make us laugh and smile.

I’m really surprised how well the game runs because there is a lot happening on screen and I didn’t experience any frame rate drops at all which is astonishing as it stays at a steady 30 frames per second.

Ratchet and Clank is a charming adventure that will have something for adults and children with great humour, gameplay and story. I would highly recommend buying this game and it’s not a full priced game so you get more than your money’s worth and you’ll be smiling throughout the whole experience.
