Puzzlair - Escape from a Van Review in Bristol

Although you know it is a game, Escape from a Van really gives you an insight into what it would be like to be a real prisoner!

Myself and four friends recently joined Gabor and Andrea, the owner and Game Master at Puzzlair, to try and escape from a real converted ex-Prison Van.

On arrival at Puzzlair you are met by one of The Games Masters, in our case it was the wonderful Andrea. You are quickly introduced to the Do's and Don'ts, to include No Biting, No Punching and No Kicking, although I have been informed that this has occasionally happened in the past due to frustration...

We were all a little apprehensive at first, but rest assured Gabor and Andrea make you feel extremely welcome, whilst also helping to build a little tension. As if this was really needed??

On entering the van and finding yourselves locked in 5 individual cells, it really is a startling prospect. However, with the 1 hour countdown clock ticking away, your adrenaline starts to rush and you must work hard as a team to try and release all 5 prisoners.

Once all of you are free from your cells (to the dismay of one of us, this took a little longer than expected), the game then really starts to take shape. Mindful of the ticking clock you will need to use all of your resolve to then try and escape from the van itself. Once again it is important to work as a team to solve the many cryptic clues that are literally all around you.

With Andrea The Games Master keeping an eye on you all and subtly providing, at times, well needed clues, your escape plan continues. Don't forget that she can also hear everything you are saying and although the occasional profanity occurs, I am sure she has heard it all before.

It is very difficult writing a review on any Escape Room, as you do not want to give away any clues. The answer of course is to try it yourself!

Puzzlair are the original Escape Room game in Bristol and have been entertaining thousands of groups since they started a couple of years ago, so much that they have now just opened another two rooms in Yeovil, so if you are in the area, please try this out. For more information and to book online please visit www.puzzlair.co.uk.

Finally, to let you all know, we managed to escape with only 38 seconds left on the clock. Albeit with a little help from our friends!

To rate this review as 5/5 really is very easy for me.

If you would like to try Escape from a Van, or any other of the 5 Escape Rooms that Puzzlair offer, please don't hesitate to get in touch with them. Don't forget that it's Father's Day soon - he will just love it!
