Sam Young reviews Goldie Lookin Chain at SWX on 2 November 2024. Here's his thoughts:

In 1983, a team of rap enthusiasts created a masterplan

A design for a way of living so revolutionary, so groundbreaking that its very concept posed a threat to the fabric of society. A threat even greater than that of having a st*ffy whilst standing in the middle of a Glyn Williams' coach full of nuns. The implications of this radical movements' political manifesto posed a threat to the UK authorities who in turn drove its founder members under ground.

Now, for the first time in world history, these shadowy figures of chaos reveal... The Manifesto... live at SWX in a sell out show with a nearly full ensemble of Wales' premier hip hop act. But we still miss you Maggot. Shell suits everywhere, questionable jewellery sure to leave a green stain around the necks of an unbelievable crowd of several generations of sweaty raver fans new and old, here for such classics as the legendary 'Guns don't kill people, rappers do' adam husseins classic 'Short term' up to modern day invites back to Graham The Bears house to drink 'Pink wine all the time', Goldie Lookin Chain are perfectly aware of who they are and what they do, and continue to play high energy shows and clearly still enjoy doing it at the top level. The show managed to cram in an unbelievable amount of hits and cult classics into an early finishing show, making sure everyone got what they came for, just like a trip down The middle of Lidl. See you at the Christmas show in Newport lads
