If every Monday evening were to be concluded in such a way, I doubt any would suffer from those irksome Monday blues again.

Supported by seventeen year old Irish singer Soak, George Ezra returned to his Bristol roots last Monday to perform to a sell-out crowd. The performance was staged at The Fleece, a live music venue that’s widely known amongst Bristol locals and beyond given its reputable past; the band Coldplay and singer KT Tunstall to name just a couple of musical legends who have walked its halls.

Following a lengthy wait, the night commenced with the angelic tones of Soak who soon lulled the audience into a state of bliss and serenity as she sung to the subtle strums of her acoustic guitar. The songs ‘explosions’ through to ‘blud,’ taking us on a whistle-stop tour of our own youthful experiences yet still consistently keeping with Souk’s trademark folk-soul style.

Upon the much anticipated arrival of Ezra, the atmosphere grew more upbeat at the Fleece as the crowd grew in excitement and anticipation, all members of the audience tapping their feet in a contagious rhythm as George delivered a unique set of songs; some originating from early on in his musical career whilst others provided a rare glimpse into songs he’s recently been toying with for his upcoming album. Nonetheless Ezra’s husky sound did not disappoint, every song tainted with a bluesy twist and each, varying in tone and emotion from the jovial ‘Cassy-O’ to the comical yet beguiling ‘Leaving it up to you.’ Both Ezra and Soak’s sense of ease upon the stage as they humoured the audience with an awkward joke or two (in Ezra’s words) amidst periods of guitar tuning played testament to their limitless passion for the music they create and their fans who support it.

Rounding off the evening with a vivacious rendition of ‘Did you hear the rain,’ Ezra left the audience in high spirits before departing to jubilant applause. If every Monday evening were to be concluded in such a way, I doubt any would suffer from those irksome Monday blues again.
