The Dears will visit Bristol’s Exchange on Thursday 6 October.

Formed in 1995 in Montreal, The Dears have had an ever-changing cast of members, revolving around the creative nucleus of iconic husband-and-wife duo, Murray Lightburn and Natalia Yanchak.
A brooding and charismatic frontman, Lightburn embodies the dark, sleazy nature of the band’s gloomy chamber-pop style. The singer’s idiosyncratic vocal approach has been likened to musical legends such as Morrisey, who the band supported back in 2004.
Following the release of their debut full-length record End of A Hollywood Bedtime Story in 2000, the group began to attract the interest of indie fans in Canada and beyond.
During their twenty-seven-year career, The Dears have put out eight albums to date and been nominated for multiple Polaris Prizes and, in addition to Morrisey, have opened for bands such as The Secret Machines and Keane.
Known for their signature look of black suits and white shirts, their orchestral pop noir sound and their energetic live shows, the outfit have not played in the UK in six years.
Their most recent record, Lovers Rock, was released in 2020 to rave reviews and the cult band’s long-awaited Exchange show - which comes as part of a lengthy string of gigs in the UK and Europe - will be eagerly anticipated by The Dears fans all over the South West.
As well as Bristol, the band’s UK tour sees them drop by venues in Cambridge, Liverpool, Glasgow, Manchester and London. To find out more head to The Dears’ website.
