Andre Rieu 2023 tickets UK & Ireland Tour
Posted on: 05 Dec 2022Andre Rieu is bringing his world-famous orchestra, the Johann Strauss Orchestra, to the UK & Ireland in 2023.
If you know anything about violinists, you know Andre Rieu. The "King of Waltz" has toured from Tampa to Tel-Aviv, and Tokyo to Tolouse. Now, he's bringing his Johann Strauss Orchestra World Tour to the world - and the UK & Ireland are definitely part of the world.
In celebration of that fact, Andre Rieu & his Johann Strauss Orchestra World Tour are coming to seven locations through the UK & Ireland.
Austrian-born composer Johann Strauss - full name Johann Baptist Strauss II, aka The Son (or, in German, Der Sohn) was a master of polkas, waltzes and quadrilles - the original King of Waltz. His music has delighted fans of all stripes for nearly 180 years.
Now, Andre Rieu - billed as the "natural successor to Johann Strauss" - is continuing that storied legacy with his mighty orchestra.
Rieu’s charm-laden performances and chart-topping records have brought classical music firmly into the mainstream, reaching the top of the charts in Australia with 2008’s Waltzing Matilda and in the UK with 2011’s And The Waltz Goes On, featuring a composition by actor Anthony Hopkins - so this is bound to be a thunderstorm of a performance.
Rieu is a name of French Hugenot origin, although his parents were Dutch Roman Catholics. He was raised in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Rieu attended the Music Academy in Brussels from 1974 to 1977 - where he famously was allegedly almost expelled after starting a fistfight when another student described Stradivarius as a "clown and a moral coward". Rieu went on to follow in his footsteps of his father - the conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra - when he created the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987.
