A visual arts weekender is coming to the South West this month

The West of England Visual Arts Alliance (WEVAA) has announced a weekend of inspiring events taking place across Bristol, Bath and Weston Super Mare.

 

Running from Thursday 6 – Sunday 9 October, the scheduled programme of events will be held at WEVAA member venues such as Brunswick Club, Culture Weston, Spike Island, University Bath Spa, UWE Bristol and Visual Arts South West.

Spearheaded by Spike Island and Visual Arts South West, WEVAA is a consortium of organisations aiming to make the South West a place where visual art can thrive.

 

To achieve this, the group aims provide opportunities for artists and help their professional development.

 

Their forthcoming weekender - a showcase of stunning visual art in the South West – features a range of inspiring events for attendees to enjoy.

 

On Thursday 6 October, a keynote presentation by Sarah Munro, Director of Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, is set to take place in Bath followed by a panel conversation about the WEVAA and an exhibition.

 

Friday 7 October’s headline event is at Spike Island, where Lawrence Abu Hamdan: 45th Parallel (awarded the first-ever Audience Award at the Toronto Biennial of Art) will be opened.

 

On Saturday 8 October, attendees are presented with an opportunity to expand their connections through a networking event with free pizza and beer at the Stable Weston. 

 

Sunday 9 October’s main event sees Bath Art Depot hosting a presentation by Eva de Klerk, author of Make Your City ­and The City as a Shell, on her innovative redevelopment of the NDSM Shipyard in north Amsterdam.
